Description
Dvadasi Damodara Vratam (ద్వాదశి దామోదర వ్రతం) is a special religious observance conducted on the twelfth day (Dvadasi) of the lunar fortnight, specifically dedicated to Lord Krishna in his form as Damodara.
The term ‘Damodara’ is one of the many names of Lord Krishna, which originates from a famous episode from his childhood where his mother, Yashoda, tied him with a rope (dama) around his belly (udara) as a form of playful punishment, hence the name Damodara.
This vratam involves fasting, prayers, singing devotional songs, and recitation of holy scriptures related to Lord Krishna. It is a common practice to light lamps and offer special foods to the deity. Observing this vratam is believed to earn the blessings of Lord Krishna, ensuring prosperity, peace, and liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
