Description
Shasti Sravana Mangalagowri Vratam (షష్ఠి శ్రావణ మంగళగౌరీ వ్రతం) is a special observance dedicated to Goddess Mangalagowri, an aspect of Goddess Parvati. This vratam is generally observed by married Hindu women for the well-being and longevity of their husbands.
The term ‘Shasti’ refers to the sixth day of the lunar fortnight, ‘Sravana’ is the name of a month in the Hindu lunar calendar (roughly coinciding with August/September in the Gregorian calendar), and ‘Mangalagowri Vratam’ is the special fast and ritual observed in honor of Goddess Mangalagowri.
On this day, women fast and perform special pujas for the goddess, seeking her divine blessings. It’s believed that observing this vratam brings prosperity, happiness, and marital bliss. The rituals and specific practices associated with this vratam can vary based on regional traditions and customs.
