Description

Amavasya Rudrabhishekam (అమావాస్య రుద్రాభిషేకం) is a special ceremony conducted on the new moon day, or Amavasya, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The word ‘Rudrabhishekam’ combines ‘Rudra’, another name for Lord Shiva, and ‘Abhishekam’, meaning a ritualistic bath of the deity.

During Rudrabhishekam, a sacred bath is given to the Shivalinga (the symbolic form of Lord Shiva) using different materials like milk, yogurt, honey, ghee, sugar, and water along with the chanting of the ‘Rudram’ mantra. The purpose of the ritual is to appease Lord Shiva and seek his divine blessings.

When conducted on Amavasya, the day traditionally associated with ancestral worship and the removal of negativity, it is believed that Rudrabhishekam can have a profound spiritual impact. It is considered to confer peace, prosperity, protection against evil forces, and the cleansing of sins and karmic baggage. It is also believed to bring health, wealth, and overall prosperity in one’s life.
